Treatment:
Treatment consists in abscess incision or tear-drop excision of a fragment from the abscess wall, followed by suturing the margins of the wound.
Greater vestibular gland abscess incision (Bartholin gland abscess)
Eligibility for surgery:
Mucoid-secreting greater vestibular glands are located symmetrically at the opening of the vagina. Their secreting ducts are quite short and they frequently become blocked, which leads to cyst formation (abscesses).
Before surgery:
Two weeks prior to the procedure, the following blood tests should be collected:
- blood cell count,
- electrolyte panel,
- coagulation factors,
- blood typing,
- glucose test,
- creatinine test,
- HBsAg test,
- anti-HCV antibody test.
About the procedure:
The procedure is performed under short intravenous anaesthesia.
The procedure lasts about 15-20 minutes.
