About the Department

An ultrasound examination is the most often used, non-invasive and fully safe diagnostic method. It uses sound waves that are reflected from the examined organs and provide an accurate image in real time. An ultrasound is short and painless. You will receive the result soon after the end of the examination.

Our Ultrasound Department offers:

  • abdominal ultrasound
  • thyroid ultrasound
  • ultrasound of the salivary glands
  • breast ultrasound
  • testicular ultrasound
  • Doppler ultrasound for blood flow in the carotid vessels (Carotid ultrasound)
  • infant hip ultrasound

Preparing for the examination

On the day of the examination please take:

  • an ID bearing a photograph
  • it is advisable to bring medical records of previously undergone examinations and procedures (discharge summaries, descriptions of ultrasound examinations).

Most of the ultrasound examinations do not require special preparation, with the exception of abdominal ultrasound.

PREPARING FOR AN ABDOMINAL ULTRASOUND

One day before the examination:

  • Maintain a light diet with the exception of raw vegetables, fruit, dark bread, fizzy drinks and fruit juice, fried meat, any meat with high fat content, peas, beans, cabbage.
  • A medicine such as Espumisan (3 x 2 capsules) should be ingested in order to expel air from the gastrointestinal tract.

6 hours before the examination:

  • Be on an empty stomach: no food, drink and cigarettes.
