Surgical correction of stress urinary incontinence (TVT-O)

Stress urinary incontinence is caused by a lack of adequate support or stabilisation of the urethra.

Before surgery:

Two weeks prior to the procedure, the following blood tests should be collected:

  • blood cell count,
  • electrolyte panel,
  • coagulation factors,
  • blood typing,
  • glucose test,
  • creatinine test,
  • HBsAg test,
  • anti-HCV antibody test.

About the procedure:

Surgical correction of stress urinary incontinence consists in placing a synthetic ribbon-like mesh (sling) under the urethra, which gives it adequate support.
The operation is carried out via the vaginal approach under general intravenous anaesthesia or under subarachnoid anaesthesia.

 

After surgery:

After the operation the patient stays about 1-2 days in the hospital.
